Seal of quality for Salzburg food on menus
The growing awareness of where food comes from not only plays a role in private food shopping and in the home kitchen. When visiting a restaurant or pub, many people also want to know whether the products used come directly from the region.
Since June 1, 2019, it has been possible to label regional foods with a special seal of quality in the Salzburg region. Innkeepers and restaurant operators can now use menus to convince their guests with the certainty that the motto “Know where it comes from” stands for.
Enjoyment from the region: the “SalzburgerLand” seal of quality
As a restaurateur, you are no doubt familiar with the questions your guests ask about the origin of food. We now live in a highly globalized world – and it is understandable that food from other regions and distant countries is sometimes processed. However, it is just as understandable that local products play a special role in a region like Salzburger Land.
The region around Salzburg offers good conditions for agriculture. Many things can be grown here, and dairy farming provides the basis for cheese and other dairy products. Meat from the region is also in high demand.
Many guests expect local produce on their plates. There are many reasons for this: people value excellent taste, top quality and freshness, but also expect good production conditions and short transportation routes. Food grown and produced in Salzburger Land meets all these requirements.

The certificate is the result of a partnership between Salzburg food producers, farmers and butchers. The initiative was launched by Provincial Councillor Schwaiger together with Rupert Quehenberger, President of the Chamber of Agriculture.
The project partnership is supported by Otto Filippi, master of the Salzburg butchers’ guild and chairman of the food industry section of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, and Leo Bauernberger, managing director of SalzburgerLand Tourismus.
Excellent products from the region – culinary experiences for tourists and local guests
As a restaurateur, you can rely on the good quality of food that is produced directly in your area! If environmentally conscious production and authentic taste go hand in hand, then your way of working is contemporary – and your guests will be happy to be convinced. The seal of approval on menus is proof of where the food comes from.
If a dish is to be labeled with the certification on the menu, the main ingredient must be a SalzburgerLand-certified product. It is necessary for the side dishes to come from Austria. The assignment in the card must be clear.
Naturally, products marked with the round seal of quality are also suitable for a separate section on the breakfast buffet – use the certificate not only for dishes on the menu, but also for a section at the buffet to spoil your guests with regional, seasonal and fresh products from Salzburger Land.
